Walk Through the Old Town Without Rushing

The Clock Tower is the natural entrance to Herceg Novi’s Old Town. Built in 1667, it remains one of the city’s most recognizable symbols. Pass beneath it and the busy street gives way to steps, small passages and stone squares.

Continue to Herceg Stjepan Square, better known as Belavista. The Church of St. Michael the Archangel stands at the center, surrounded by old stone façades and palms. This is a good place to stop rather than simply photograph: sit for a coffee, notice the details and let the Old Town reveal itself at walking pace.

Follow the Promenade and Continue to Savina

After the stone steps of the Old Town, descend toward Škver and walk part of the coastal promenade. This lower level of the city has a completely different rhythm: small beaches, cafés, boats and long views along the bay.

Continue east toward Savina when you want a quieter change of pace. The Savina Monastery complex lies around two kilometres east of central Herceg Novi in Mediterranean greenery. Its churches, hillside setting and view over the bay make it worth approaching slowly and respectfully.

Discover the Landscape of Orjen

Orjen rises directly behind Herceg Novi and forms the mountain world of the city’s hinterland. The landscape is shaped by dense forest, exposed limestone, old routes and viewpoints that can feel far from the coast even though the sea is close.

Nature Park Orjen has a network of marked trails for different levels of experience. Some areas are suitable for a relaxed walk, while higher and more exposed routes require mountain experience, suitable conditions and proper preparation. If you do not know the terrain, choose a marked route appropriate for your ability or go with a qualified local guide.

Slow Down in the Forest Landscape of Vrbanj

Vrbanj is one of the key points where visitors feel the transition from the coast into the Orjen landscape. The air is cooler, beech forest surrounds the road and the pace changes almost immediately.

The area is associated with outdoor recreation, walking routes and the Vrbanj Adventure Park, set at about 1,100 metres above sea level. Even if you are not planning a major hike, Vrbanj works well as a mountain stop for fresh air, a forest walk and time away from the busiest coastal areas.

Treat Vrbanj as part of the journey rather than a checklist attraction. The road, forest and changing views are the experience.

Vidov Vrh brings together the two landscapes that define Herceg Novi: the mountain roads above the town and the wider view toward the Bay of Kotor. It is a place to stop, take photographs and understand the scale of the coastline below.

Access, visibility and route conditions vary, which is why a local guided experience is useful if you do not know the roads.
